7th House Synastry

The 7th House opens the Diurnal Hemisphere and symbolizes it in its whole, as in reflecting its most significant traits and emphases. The main one is in contraposing the person and the world. The educational aspect of such contraposition is fairly clear: your karma projects some of your internal qualities on the outside in order for you to see them better. The problem is that, despite seeing it, you may not always realize that what you are looking at is, in fact, your own perfection or peccadillos.

The main theme of the Seventh House synastry is opposition and a search for partnerships.

Any opposition by the 7th House will bear a personal mark, which is why they are often superficial. As a counterbalance, partnerships here tend to be very effective. Still, the 7th house, much like the entire Diurnal Hemisphere, seems to carry the flair of oppression: both the outside world and the partner appear more powerful than you, so it is you who has to adjust, even when this is not how it looks.

On the lower evolutional levels, the synastry planets in the 7th House pose the following challenge: you either accept the submissive role and sync your behavior with that of your partner, or you fight the partner as you would an enemy, protecting what you perceive as integral parts of your personality and your rights. On the higher evolutional levels, you look for partnership opportunities and eventually begin to feel that, as you improve your relationship with the partner, your inner world improves as well, and the doubts and contradictions that bothered you for a long time disappear, as if on their own.

This is why freedom in your partner’s company is never achieved through war and fighting but rather comes on its own as a fruit of studying and adapting to your partner. You also have to listen to the instructions of the couple’s egregor, which sometimes can be quite queer.

Misunderstandings in the 7th House often stem from us forgetting that partners are usually sent to us for short periods of time only. So, the partner will not put you in chains, unless you want to make your connection last by, say, getting married. In this case, there is a direct necessity to fight for your personal freedom: simply because there cannot be any good compatibility with a partner who’s supposed to stay with you only for a brief period.

7th House Synastry & Partner Relationships

A key issue of synastry planets in the 7th House is the question of freedom and independence. In your Nocturnal Houses (1st through 6th) you perceive the partner’s planets indirectly, so the partner is not in the center of your attention. Consequently, if most of your partner’s planets fall into your Nocturnal Houses, your partner is within your reality, meaning that you will get from you partner more than you will give back. Reversely, if most of the partner’s planets fall into your Diurnal Houses (7th through 12th), you will tend to expend more energy than you will receive: at least this is how you’ll perceive it.

Your partner’s perception will also be determined by the location of your planets in his or her own hemispheres, so there are 4 possible scenarios of your energetic balance:

  1. both you and the partner think that the other one gives more than receives;
  2. both you and the partner think that the other one receives more than gives;
  3. you both think that your partner owes you more than you owe back;
  4. you both think that you owe your partner more than the partner owes you.

Naturally, there are serious limitations to the seeming simplicity of this arithmetic. You have to take into account the strength of planets in the natal charts; besides, partners in a couple usually turn to each other only some of their planets while the others remain passive or altogether inactive. However, there is an important conclusion to be drawn from the abovementioned classification, namely:

Your relationship with a 7th House synastry partner will tend to be energetically asymmetrical.

This is a given, unavoidable fact which holds true essentially always. But a crucial question that arises from here is:

What will you spend your partner’s energy on: the demands of your ego, or spiritual evolution?

Another important conclusion is that your opinions on the roles you and your partner play in each other’s lives can vary drastically, and it’s completely fine. The most important challenge is to fulfill the karmic role of your couple’s egregor.
